Our visit to Loughborough University

8 reasons why we think Loughborough University is so great!

Hi, my name is Lizzie and I’m the Administrator at Wendover Education.

One of the things I get to do is to travel to our partner universities and recently I visited Loughborough University with our Director, Sarah Bacon. At the university, we met up with Lucy, an International Officer, who showed us around the university and answered our many questions!

We had a fantastic time hearing and seeing the great things the university has to offer and I have therefore written this blog to outline some of the reasons why we think Loughborough is so great. So go ahead and have a good read – make sure you contact us if you want to find out more!

1) A safe campus with everything you need on your doorstep

The 440 acre single-site campus has everything you need in one place! Below are just a few things the campus has to offer:

  • Food shops
  • Library
  • Dentist
  • Doctor
  • Hairdressers
  • Gym
  • Bank

The campus has 24hr security with officers patrolling all areas of the University including Halls of Residences – the students’ security and wellbeing is their top priority.

2) A Top 10 UK University

Loughborough is in the top 10 of every national university league table (2017/18). It excels across all subject areas and features in the top ten for 14 of the 29 subjects it teaches. Whether you choose to study engineering or fashion and textiles here, you will confidently receive a well-regarded degree.

3) No worrying about finding accommodation

Finding accommodation is a daunting task for new students, especially for international students moving to the UK for the first time. However, at Loughborough, there’s no need to worry – all international students are guaranteed 1st and 2nd year accommodation on campus! Students also have the choice to choose from en suite, catered, postgraduate only and same sex only accommodation.

4) A strong focus on student experience

It’s no surprise that Loughborough rank so highly for student satisfaction – they have one of the biggest and most active students’ union which is ran entirely by students. They are continuously listening to their fellow student population to make the university the best it can possibly be. With over 150 clubs and societies that meet almost every day, there really is something for everyone!

5) Top of the range facilities

Loughborough boast some impressive new facilities. The latest addition to the campus in 2017 was the new STEM lab – the UK’s leading centre of excellence for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). A year previous, the university opened their ‘West Park Teaching Hub’, a collection of new lecture theatres and study spaces. The university also recently refurbished their library; a light and airy study environment which includes a café, break out rooms to relax, private study booths and in house IT support for all students.

See below why Loughborough University think their library is so great!

6) One-of-a-kind placement opportunities

At Loughborough, all undergraduate courses offer a year long work placement, otherwise known as a ‘sandwich’ year. The university has fantastic links with both international and local companies (including Rolls Royce and Microsoft) who specifically look to employ Loughborough students. Many students are even offered a permanent job with their placement employer after graduation – it’s no surprise that Loughborough was ranked in the top 10 in the UK for graduate prospects (The Guardian University Guide 2018).

7) If you’re into sport – here’s where it’s at

Whether you’re a professional athlete or simply like to kick around a ball for fun, Loughborough have something for you. Recently named the ‘Best sporting university in the world’ (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017), Loughborough houses an Olympic sized swimming pool, a gymnastic centre, two gyms, football pitches and a 4g rugby pitch to name but a few.

8) Location

Only 15 minutes by road to East midlands airport! Here flights can be caught to European destinations, and if needed, onward flights to international destinations.
